PREPARATORY EDUCATION FOR IMMIGRANTS

Preparatory education for immigrants is available for children and young people of immigrant background whose Finnish language skills are not adequate to study in Finnish.

Preparatory education provided in the 1st and 2nd grades is arranged as an inclusive education in a general basic education class at the local school. Older students study in their own preparatory education groups. 

The main focus is in the studies of Finnish as a second language. A personal study programme is designed for every pupil during the preparatory education. The education normally lasts one year. At the end of the preparatory studies the school estimates where the pupil will continue his/her studies, at which class level and what kind of support the pupil needs there.
